While Hyundai seems locked in a battle with itself in creating some of the best EVs on the market, its newest model brings something new to the table. The Hyundai Ioniq 6 is the first electric sedan for the brand, but how does it compare to the current Ioniq 5 crossover? At D'Arcy Hyundai, we've done some digging to find out.
Interior Space
The discrepancies in size mean that the Ioniq 5 and Ioniq 6 differ most regarding interior space. While the SUV offers 27 cubic feet of cargo area, the Ioniq 6 sedan offers just 11 cubes of total cargo area. However, passenger room is actually tipped in favor of the 6, with more front and rear legroom than its SUV counterpart. There is slightly less headroom in the rear, but for drivers and front-seat passengers the Ioniq 6 has a slight edge.
Range and Performance
There are ton of range options available for both the Ioniq 5 and Ioniq 6, ranging from just 220 miles all the way to 361 miles for the long-range Ioniq 6 configuration. That said, the lower, sleeker Ioniq 6 carries an advantage across the board, with its lowest range at 240 miles compared to 220 for the Ioniq 5. At the top end of the scale, the Ioniq 5 gets up to 303 miles compared to the 361-mile range of the sedan, thanks mostly to its weight and aerodynamic profile.
Price Difference Between the Ioniq 5 and Ioniq 6
While the two Hyundai EVs share similar architecture, the Ioniq 6 is slightly cheaper than its bigger brother. The difference is slight at the bottom end, clocking in at about $1000 less than the Ioniq 5, but in its top spec the Ioniq 6 is just over $2,500 less than a similar-spec Ioniq 5 model.
